When life events create massive changes in the body’s size or shape, due to anything ranging from childbirth to extreme weight loss, it’s not uncommon to notice that this fluctuation in weight has brought with it some unexpected other changes, as well. When your body undergoes a significant shift in its size or shape, extra tissue or loose skin can sometimes be left over, in addition to stubborn pockets of fat that might still be hanging around.
Toning Your Arms, Breasts, Tummy, Butt, and Thighs
Body contouring at AdmireMD® Plastic Surgery + Skin Clinic is a great way for individuals in the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas to eliminate stubborn areas of extra fat or tissue, for a smoother, more youthful and contoured appearance. We offer body contouring procedures that can help you address just about any part of your body, and can’t wait to learn more about your goals and how we can help you reach them!
What Exactly Is Body Contouring in Phoenix?
Body contouring is not a single procedure, but rather refers to a series of procedures that we offer, aimed at rearranging and excising extra fat tissue for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Not only can body contouring help you to greatly improve your confidence and self-esteem by improving your outward appearance, but it can bring with it a number of functional benefits, as well, allowing you to move more comfortably and eliminating annoying excess skin.
Depending on your specific procedure, body contouring can involve anything from liposuction to the surgical repositioning of muscles and tissues (as with an arm lift or tummy tuck, for example), and the trimming away of any extra skin or fat that might be hanging around when it’s no longer welcome.
During your consultation, we’ll go over your goals carefully, and develop a treatment plan that is custom tailored to not only your individual body type, but your personal goals, as well.
Can I Combine Body Contouring Procedures?
While it’s certainly possible to perform a full body lift in one lengthy session, most doctors prefer to break up body contouring surgeries, for your safety and comfort. This is a fairly involved surgery, and keeping a patient under anesthesia for more than six hours tends to exacerbate the risk for things like complications. We’ll talk about how to best approach multiple procedures during your consultation.
What Are the Body Contouring Procedures You Offer?
Given that body contouring is not one procedure, but rather refers to a number of procedures that can help you to sculpt and shape various parts of your body, there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
We’ll develop a treatment plan that is not only designed to address your specific goals, but was put together with your individual and unique body type in mind.
The body contouring procedures are split up into a few of the most common areas operated on:
- Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
- Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
- Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
- Lower Body Lift (normally thighs and buttocks)
The breast lift (or mastopexy) reshapes the breasts and repositions the areolas, removing skin from below the breast and moving the nipple higher, while skin above the breast is pulled around to create a swell. This procedure is usually combined with an augmentation, so as to better fill the empty space created by fat removal. The areolas can also be resized if necessary, and most of the scars associated with this procedure are hidden by a normal bra.
The tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) tightens the abdominal walls and removes excess skin to create a flatter contour of the abdomen. This procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia and begins with an incision along the bikini-line and the removal of the navel. Once the abdominal walls have been repositioned, the skin flap is pulled down, stretched and cut for the new naval fixture. The procedure is moderately invasive and requires around two to three weeks before exercise can be attempted.
Lower Body Lift
A lower body lift consists of both a thigh lift and a buttock lift, both aimed at resecting as much excess skin as possible. The thigh lift procedure is similar to an arm lift, with the surgical incision varying in position according to where the majority of the extra skin is located. A butt lift doesn’t involve implants, but often uses fat harvested from other parts of the body to “fill out” the shape of your rear. In many cases, though simply repositioning the skin produces satisfactory results.
The arm lift (or brachioplasty) procedure creates a more natural and youthful look by removing unwanted fat and excess skin that hangs down beneath the underarms. The incision is made beneath the arm, and can extend from the elbow to the armpit, depending on how much skin must be removed.
Will There Be Scarring After My Body Contouring Surgery?
At AdmireMD® Plastic Surgery + Skin Clinic, we understand that life after the procedure is every bit as important as the procedure itself. This means that we take every effort to ensure incisions are made in ways that allow you to hide scars on areas that would normally be covered, such as under the arms or below the waistline. During your consultation, Anthony A. Admire will talk you through all the particulars of your surgery, including detailed information on the placement and healing process for any incisions, including what kind of scarring you can reasonably expect, after your procedure.
