IPL Therapy in Scottsdale

IPL penetrates below the surface of the skin, leaving the top layer of skin intact, which means that there is no post-treatment recovery period. The light is absorbed by the pigment in sunspots and the blood in the visible vessels, before being converted to heat which dissolves the cells creating the pigment and shrinking the vessels as it does so. How Does the IPL Procedure Work?

Before your treatment, we’ll apply a topical anesthetic gel to make sure you’re comfortable, before placing the IPL machine on the setting that best suits your skin, taking into consideration things like the condition being treated, the amount of pigment in your skin, and so forth.

The IPL handpiece is gently pressed to the skin as it pulses light, which is absorbed by your skin’s pigment and converted to heat, which dissolves the pigmented cells. After treatment, the topical anesthetic is removed with a warm cloth, and a moisturizer with sunscreen is usually applied. If there is any swelling, a cold pack is applied for five to 10 minutes.

Three to six treatment sessions are usually required, with a session typically lasting from 30 to 90 minutes each. We recommend spacing them about three weeks apart. Gradual improvement may be seen after each treatment, but optimal results tend to appear after several months.

What’s the Recovery Process Like?

There is no recovery process following your IPL treatment! You can return to work and your daily life on the very same day. Your skin might be a little red after your treatment, but this typically goes away within a day or two.

As it heals in the days following treatment, your skin will likely begin to flake, before a natural-looking improvement becomes noticeable in your skin. Applying sunscreen regularly and avoiding sun exposure is recommended following your treatment. Are There Any Risks Involved?

One possible contraindication for IPL treatment is taking medication that increases photosensitivity. A patient using a topical or oral medicine that increases sensitivity to light may not be a candidate for IPL treatment. And, although IPL skin rejuvenation is considered safe, there are some risks associated with its use. Although rare, IPL skin rejuvenation can cause skin discoloration, blisters, scars and burns.
