Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

The microneedling procedure is perfect for just about any individual who is looking to walk back some of the early signs of aging, especially in the face and neck area. During your consultation, we’ll help you decide if this is the right procedure to help you meet your cosmetic goals, and you’re likely to be a good candidate if you’re looking to address any of the following issues:

  • Superficial scarring
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Marionette lines, crow’s feet, etc
  • Sagging skin
  • Laxity and lost volume

How Does Microneedling Work?

As your body ages, it naturally begins to produce less and less of compounds known as collagen and elastin. These compounds help to keep your skin looking and feeling youthful and fresh, enabling it to effectively retain moisture and look its best. Microneedling works against the onset of aging, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, by using tiny needles to stimulate your body’s wound response.

By tricking your skin into thinking it’s been injured, in other words, this procedure stimulates your body’s regenerative wound response process, essentially working to rebuild an area that hasn’t been significantly damaged. This stimulates your body’s production of collagen and elastin, which restore and rejuvenate the treatment area, leaving skin looking fresh and youthful, without any invasive surgery.

What Can I Expect During My Microneedling Treatment?

The nice thing about microneedling is that it’s what we sometimes refer to as a “lunch break” treatment, meaning it’s quick, and easy, and can be completed in less than an hour. This does, of course, depend on the treatment area, and we’ll make sure you know exactly what to expect before your treatment begins.

The process itself is quite comfortable, with many patients describing the sensation as being somewhat similar to feeling sandpaper gently applied to the surface of your skin. We’ll be more than happy to help you with a topical numbing cream, if that might make you feel a bit more comfortable.

The microneedling device uses a series of very fine, very short needles to create “micro-channels” in your skin. Depending on the specifics of your treatment, a topical ointment may be applied, to enhance your results.

When your treatment is over, you’ll have some slight redness, which will fade in the following days. You’ll need to avoid certain acidic products and substances, and we’ll make sure you have detailed aftercare instructions.

What Is the Recovery Process Like?

There isn’t much of a recovery process at all, which is a big part of the reason the microneedling procedure is as popular as it is. You’ll experience some slight redness, not very different from a sunburn, but this won’t last very long, and you’ll otherwise be clear to return to your daily activities as soon as your treatment is over.

You’ll be able to notice your results just about as soon as your treatment is over, and you’ll be able to see the full, final results set in over the course of the following days, as the redness clears up and the treatment area is given time to fully heal. Sometimes repeat treatments are recommended for ideal results.
